My Parched, Damaged Hair Can’t Live Without Naturelab Tokyo’s Perfect Repair Leave-In Treatment

Naturelab Tokyo Perfect Repair LeaveIn Treatment Review

$17 at Ulta Beauty

TL;DR:

  • What It Is: A foaming leave-in conditioner
  • What It Does: Softens and conditions hair with vegan keratin
  • Who It's For: Anyone looking for a boost in the shine department, especially if your hair is dry or damaged (or both)

If there were an award for the most fragile hair in the world, I would need to prepare an acceptance speech right away. With a naturally fine slash dry hair texture and a predisposition to extreme hair color changes, I’m battling split-ends, frizziness, and breakage at every given moment of my life — hence my unwavering dependence on Naturelab Tokyo’s Perfect Repair Leave-In Treatment. Its concoction of reparative hair conditioners (including vegan keratin, argan oil, and castor oil) give moisture and strength back to my hair without weighing it down, miraculously so. A pump or two of this light-as-air foam is enough to easily coat all my shoulder-length ends while wet before air-drying — because with all the shine it leaves behind, who needs a flat-iron?

You’ll find Naturelab Tokyo Perfect Repair Leave-In Treatment in the October 2021 Allure Beauty Box.

9 Sneaky Ways to Save Money During the Week

Source: Colorjoy Stock

Spending money can quickly turn into a spiral that becomes a little (or a lot) addicting. When you aren’t consciously tracking what’s coming in and out of you bank account or keeping in mind ways to save money, it’s easy for it to get out of control.

But on the flip side, saving can become addictive too. Seeing that number in your bank account grow makes saving easier, especially when you find new ways to save money. Some moves are obvious: budgets, CDs with high-yield interest rates, and what not. Others, however, I like to think of as sneaky money moves. Before you ask, no, I’m not hoarding money under any tables like I did during Monopoly games as a kid. Instead, I’m doing my research and figuring out under-the-radar techniques to pinch pennies wherever I can.

While these steps might not amount to huge savings, they do lessen living costs and, little by little, build up bank accounts. Every cent counts in the long haul, right?

1. Save pennies at the pump

We’re not exaggerating when I say pennies here. Depending on the day, sometimes all you’ll get are pennies back on my gas purchase. Other times, however, I can earn more than a dollar back at the pump. The secret? It’s all thanks to Checkout 51. If you’re not using the coupon app yet, I highly recommend downloading it. While the app is great for grocery shopping, it’s also a sneaky tool for lowering your gas receipts.

So what’s the catch? Checkout 51 cashback discounts aren’t available at every gas station. For instance, the pump closest to where I live doesn’t participate. The one on my way to work, however, does. Because of this, I’ve taken to planning my fill-ups to coincide with my drive to the office. Before I leave home, I upload the offer to my account (a required step), then fill’er up at the gas station. Later that day, I snap a picture of my receipt for the app, then wait for my cashback savings to apply to my account. Ba da bing! Money back.

2. Become a coupon queen

No, you don’t have to go all Extreme Couponing to save big at the grocery store. All it really takes are a few easy-to-use apps to score deals on the groceries you buy anyway.

First things first, take a minute to see if the grocery store near you has its own app. For example, I usually go to Stop & Shop, so I always use the store’s app to load discounts to my card (related: get a supermarket card!) and show the cashier my account barcode right on my phone. Through the Stop & Shop app, I also receive personalized coupons based on my frequent purchases (I get a lot of yogurt deals) and keep track of how many gas points I have for the Stop & Shop gas program (again, get a supermarket card!).

Beyond the basic supermarket app, other favorites include Checkout 51 and Fetch Rewards. While all are similar, they each have unique pros that make having them all worthwhile. With Checkout 51, the coupon selection isn’t huge, but it can pay off well.

3. Drop the gym membership

Toward the end of college, one of the first things I vowed to myself was that I’d never pay for a gym membership. Now, I’m not in any way saying gyms are bad or a waste of time, because they’re not. What they are, however, is expensive. Based on my lifestyle, I knew that I never actually needed to pay for a membership when I could easily take advantage of free resources instead. And I did.

When I worked abroad for a year after graduation, I relied exclusively upon running and Youtube fitness videos to stay in shape. I still do, although I’ve also added Shape’s fitness challenges to the mix. Is running not in the cards for you? Nowadays, Youtube has every type of workout under the sun, including my favorites by Fitness Blender and POPSUGAR. Not only do both channels offer routines with and without equipment, but they’re approachable for individuals of all fitness levels. And yes, I can say first-hand that they definitely do make you sweat.

4. Cook one new recipe per week

You might be reading this one and saying to yourself, “I already cook at home.” Nice! But when’s the last time you cooked something new? On the flip side, when’s the last time you ate out or ordered takeout? If the answer to the latter is anything along the lines of “way too often,” then it’s time to get cooking.

I know you probably know that cooking at home is less expensive than eating out all the time. The sneaky part of this tip is that it’s not just about saving a few bucks by skipping Seamless, but also about creating a gradual lifestyle change. See, when you get in the habit of picking out a new recipe every week or two, you win twice. On the one hand, you get to try a new-to-you dish and improve your skills in the kitchen. On the other, you commit to regularly forgoing dinner out in order to save money and work your creative muscles. And who knows? You just may love it.

5. Make coffee at home

This one’s for you, Starbucks lovers (also, I’m sorry, but you’ll thank me later). Depending on where you live, a standard cup of drip coffee can run anywhere from an affordable $1.50 to a cringeworthy $5 and above. I don’t know about you, but $3 a day—and $15 per workweek—is a gut punch to my wallet. To avoid the temptation of stopping into any of the two Starbucks or four Dunkins on my way to work (yes, I counted), I’ve made a commitment to only brew coffee at home. I can’t operate without java in the morning, so this is actually instant gratification for me, since it means I don’t have to suffer through getting ready sans-caffeine. Three scoops and eight minutes after hitting the start button, I’m happily sipping on my preferred medium roast, hazelnut blend.

Want to make coffee at home even easier? With auto-timers, you can set your coffee to brew at a certain hour every day. In the warmer months, you could also brew a huge pot on Sunday and turn it into iced coffee to sip during the week.

6. Get a library card—and actually use it

Unlike platinum highlights and Tamagotchis, library cards are one childhood memento you want to keep with you into adulthood. In case it’s been a minute since you last stepped foot into your local library, consider the fact that library cards grant access to so much more than books. Depending on the library closest to you, signing up for a member card might mean just getting access to hundreds, if not thousands, of new-to-you reads (which sounds pretty wonderful, tbh). On the other hand, it might also mean gaining admittance to everything from career prep programs and language courses to movies and music. And did I mention it’s all free?

P.S. Your local library isn’t the only place to sign up for a card. For college alums, many universities offer library access to books and databases for graduates and students alike. Check with your school’s alumni services to confirm.

7. Carpool with friends or take public transportation at least one day a week

Depending on where you live or what your work setup is like, commuting solo might be the path of least resistance. If you want to get serious about saving, though, carpooling and public transportation are the way to go. Make either option more doable by introducing one or the other to your routine on a set day per week. Perhaps you know your cubicle buddy lives in the next town over from you and drives by your place on the way to work. Why not ask him or her to alternate driving duty with you every Friday? Not only will carpooling save you gas money in the short-term, but it can also extend the life of your ride and decrease pollution.

If carpooling is not feasible or realistic (in other words, if you live in a big city), public transportation is a saving grace. Instead of relying upon your own car or an Uber to get you to the office, consider taking the local bus or subway to work instead. For the price of a single ride, you may have to sacrifice a few minutes of your morning routine, but you’ll score big on gas or Lyft fee savings. Plus, public transportation is an easy way to make your daily commute just a teensy bit greener.

8. Shop for makeup at the drugstore

As much as it pains me to say it, sometimes skipping that Sephora order is a good idea. If you think about it, many “must-have” makeup items aren’t really essential at all. Case in point: mascara. I can’t tell you how often I’ve been suckered into purchasing a prestige mascara just because I was a fan of the brand (looking at you, Lancome Hypônse Drama) or I fell for the packaging. Yet when it came down to testing each tube, I found I loved them about as much as I loved the versions from the drugstore.

All in all, for frequent repurchases like mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick, it’s much more affordable to pick them up at the drugstore instead. With cheaper prices and membership discounts, drugstores offer all the go-to products for a fraction of the prices found at department store counters. And if we’re being honest, we all know the CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara is never not a good thing to have in your makeup stash.

9. Look at leftovers like gold (because they are)

If you’re trying to save dough and you’re not all aboard the leftover bandwagon, it’s time to hop on and never look back. You see, leftovers are, if not a full meal in and of themselves, the start of something delicious. To make leftovers work for me, I love purposefully making extra of whatever I’m cooking for dinner so that I can pack it up in my container of choice for lunch the next day.

While this is a major boon when it comes to lunch prep in the morning (simply grab the container and go), it’s also a sneaky way for me to curb my takeout expenses. If I know I already have a perfectly scrumptious portion of food waiting for me in the office fridge, I’m far less likely to place a pickup order than I would be if I threw together a sad desk lunch that morning. (Let me tell you, a can of microwaveable soup gets old real fast.)

All products featured on Allure are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.

It's that time again, skin-care lovers. Soko Glam's 2021 Best of K-Beauty Awards is here. And similar to years past, the e-retailer is hosting an exciting sale to celebrate and say thank you to its loyal customers. The promotion commences on Friday, October 1, and lasts through Wednesday, October 13, so shoppers get almost two full weeks of savings. Starting at 10 a.m. ET on October 1, this year's winners — all of which were chosen by the Soko Glam community — will be 20 percent off with the promo code BOBKB20. And judging by the lineup (pictured below), you absolutely don't want to miss out. Outside of Then I Met You's The Giving Essence, the promo applies to every single winner. (You can't combine the code with any other promotions or discount codes, as per usual.)

A group shot of Soko Glam's 2021 Best of KBeauty Winners Saturday Skin Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask Rovectin Lotus Water...Courtesy of brand

Best of all, if you spend $125 or more, you'll receive a complimentary The Happy (Skin) Days Set. Inside a limited-edition Soko Glam reusable tote, you'll find the following four winners in deluxe sample sizes: Saturday Skin Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask, Rovectin Lotus Water Cream, Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum, and Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil BHA. They're the perfect additions to any suitcase or duffle bag for your next (safe) getaway, so your skin stays glowing even in less familiar temperatures and settings.

Let's get into the good stuff and break down each individual winner by superlative:

Best Clean Beauty: Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Advanced Serum

Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Advanced Serum on white background

Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Advanced Serum

$25$20Soko GlamShop Now

We love how upfront Acwell is about the pH levels in its products. If you need a refresher, our skin clocks in at 5.5 — and the closer it stays to that number, the fewer chances harmful bacteria has of forming and wrecking havoc. Acwell's Licorice pH Balancing Advanced Serum has a watery, fast-absorbing formula spiked with, as its name suggests, a powerful brightening, discoloration-evening trio of licorice root extract, licorice root water, and niacinamide.

Even Soko Glam cofounder Charlotte Cho told us that Acwell is one of her favorites and consistently makes the cut for the Best of K-Beauty Awards. (The Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner, Licorice pH Balancing Intensive Eye Cream, and Licorice pH Balancing Essence Mist have all picked up awards in previous years.)

As for the "clean" designation, you can read all about Allure's standards for clean beauty to inform your decision — but this serum makes the cut for us.

Best Vegan Beauty: Rovectin Lotus Water Cream

Rovectin Lotus Water Cream on white background

Rovectin Lotus Water Cream

$20$16Soko GlamShop Now

Don't let this unassuming exterior fool you. Within Rovetin's Lotus Water Cream, you'll find a blend of lotus flower extract, glycerin, niacinamide, and Aquaxyl (a patented hydrator) working together to majorly boost hydration levels, limit water loss, and improve elasticity and plumpness. If you're looking for a light-as-air, gel-like moisturizer that feels soothing and cool to the touch, this is it — hands down. Take it from senior commerce writer Sarah Han, who says it's become an absolute staple in her routine — both daytime and nighttime.

And as the category suggests, this cream is not made with any animal products.

Best Staple: Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum

Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum

$17$14Soko GlamShop Now

When an affordable (as in, under $20) golden elixir like the Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum promises a woke-up-like-this radiance, it's ok to hoard a bit of doubt. But we're here to dispel those uncertainties because this soothing concoction of anti-inflammatory propolis, tone-evening niacinamide, and antioxidant-rich turmeric keeps skin feeling bouncy and looking bright. Add a few drops to your nighttime routine to calm breakouts and irritation.

The New Classic: Neogen Day-Light Protection Airy Sunscreen

Neogen Day-Light Protection Airy Sunscreen on white background

Neogen Day-Light Protection Airy Sunscreen

$32$26Soko GlamShop Now

It's no surprise that so many have fallen in love with Neogen's latest SPF, Day-Light Protection Airy Sunscreen. Upon its debut a few months ago, Han raved about the colorless, lightweight formula and its hydrating, glow-inducing, and yet barely-there texture. Despite being a chemical sunscreen (meaning it uses octocrylene, homosalate, and avobenzone filters), it's infused with a boatload of soothing ingredients including açai, aloe, avocado, glycerin, and hibiscus to counteract any potential sensitivity, as cosmetic chemist Ginger King confirmed.

Best Night Treatment: Saturday Skin Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask

Saturday Skin Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask on white background

Saturday Skin Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask

$29$23Soko GlamShop Now

While Saturday Skin's Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask has a fun, jelly-like texture, it's not here to play around. In fact, it's going to work extra hard while you snooze and infuse your skin with deep hydration — so you wake up with refreshed, supple skin. How so? Look to the key vitamins found in the bouncy formula, including vitamin A (retinol), vitamin B (niacinamide), and vitamin C (yuzu extract). All you need is a little bit of product applied on top of your moisturizer to seal in all of that barrier-repairing, skin-smoothing goodness — you're welcome.

Best At-Home Treatment: Benton Snail Bee Ultimate Hydrogel Eye Patch

Benton Snail Bee Ultimate Hydrogel Eye Patch on white background

Benton Snail Bee Ultimate Hydrogel Eye Patch

$28$22Soko GlamShop Now

After all of the screen time we subject our eyes to (sorry), they'll definitely appreciate a bit of pampering — courtesy of Benton Snail Bee Ultimate Hydrogel Eye Patch. Each container comes packed with 60 patches (aka 30 pairs/uses) infused with gold, pearl, diamond, and charcoal powders that firm and hydrate your delicate undereye area. Doesn't that so luxurious? An at-home spa night never sounded so right.

Best All-Around: Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil BHA

Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil BHA on white background

Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil BHA

$27$22Soko GlamShop Now

We're huge proponents of double cleansing here at Allure, which means kicking things off with a no-nonsense cleansing oil that seamlessly (and satisfyingly) melts every bit of makeup and pore-clogging debris away. Perfect for combination and oily skin types, Hanskin Pore Cleansing Oil BHA targets blackheads and excess sebum with exfoliating salicylic acid, as well as jojoba, olive, and fruit oils (orange, lemon, etc.) to leave your pores feeling sparkling clean — but never stripped.

P.S. Those with drier and more sensitive skin can check out Hanskin's Cleansing Oil PHA, which is formulated with polyhydroxy acids (hence, the PHA in the name). In comparison to AHA and BHA, PHA molecules are larger in size and therefore can't penetrate the deeper, more delicate layers of the skin.

Best Body Care: Klavuu Green Pearlsation Tea Tree Care Body Spray

Klavuu Green Pearlsation Tea Tree Care Body Spray on white background

Klavuu Green Pearlsation Tea Tree Care Body Spray

$14$11Soko GlamShop Now

In case you forgot, it's not just your face that's prone to breaking out. And, thanks to rising stress levels and a more sedentary lifestyle due to the ongoing pandemic, body acne is unfortunately more common than ever. Kick pesky backne and buttne to the curb with a beginner-friendly treatment like the Klavuu Green Pearlsation Tea Tree Care Body Spray, which is laced with tea tree oil and salicylic acid to fight acne and irritation in hard-to-reach areas. Pearl and algae extracts also assist in brightening skin and soothing irritation.

Best Newcomer: Good Light Moon Glow Milky Toning Lotion

Good Light Moon Glow Milky Toning Lotion on white background

Good Light Moon Glow Milky Toning Lotion

$22$18Soko GlamShop Now

Also ringing in a skin-loving pH of 5.5, Good Light's Moon Glow Milky Toning Lotion is pretty much perfectly named. Milky in both color and texture, this lightweight fluid leaves skin feeling moisturized, balanced, and smooth as heck. Natural alpha hydroxy acids (or AHAs) via fruit extracts — like apple, lemon, and coconut — gently sweet away dead skin cells to reveal a more radiant complexion. In terms of locking in hydration and strengthening your barrier, you'll have meadowfoam seed oil (an anti-inflammatory fatty acid), snow mushroom (holds 1000 times its weight in water), and plenty of soothing ceramides to thank.

The Holy Grail: Then I Met You The Giving Essence

Then I Met You The Giving Essence on white background

Then I Met You The Giving Essence

$50Soko GlamShop Now

While Then I Met You's The Giving Essence unfortunately isn't discounted, that shouldn't stop you from experiencing this gem of a product for yourself. Seriously, we love a hydrating essence that also gently exfoliates, thanks to red algae (which, along with black chokeberry, lends this formula its gorgeous, natural pink hue). But the star ingredient might just have to be polyglutamic acid, which holds four times more moisture than hyaluronic acid. Let that sink in — literally.

Treat your skin to an upgraded routine by shopping the epic sale through October 13 at 10 a.m. ET, so there's plenty of time to shop over at sokoglam.com and cash in on the savings. As a reminder, all you have to do is use the code BOBK20 at checkout to redeem the limited-time offer. Time to glow up, my friends.

Easy Fall Outfits You Can Wear All Season Long

Source: Kate Ogata

While “less is more” is generally the notion when it comes to just about everything in life, those of us who are partial to the fashion world can fall deep into a mentality that leans a little more toward “more is more.” And when it comes to fall outfits, this couldn’t be more true.

While more, in fact, sometimes can be more, reeling it back to the more minimalist mentality when it comes to getting dressed can be beneficial for all of us. Taking a step back and realizing that most of the outfits on our inspiration boards consist of nothing but a few basics paired together in the right ways means that styling just got a whole lot easier.

With the glorious, fleeting days of fall here and greeting us every day, we’re determined to make the most of it each and every time we leave the house—but that doesn’t mean we’re trying hard. All it means is that we’re strategically creating easy outfits that we know we can rely on. Ready for all the fall dressing inspiration you’ll need? Look no further.

1. A sweatshirt and plaid pants

sweatshirt / sunglasses / bag / pants / pants (plus-size) / boots

There’s nothing better in an outfit than a good juxtaposition, and this accomplishes just that. By mixing a casual piece (a sweatshirt) with one that’s ordinarily more formal (plaid trousers), it accomplishes an effortless feel that exudes coolness. With this season’s chunky combat boots and a shoulder bag, it’s a perfect off-duty look for all your weekend activities.

2. A blazer and mom jeans

blazer / blazer (plus-size) / sunglasses / top / top (plus-size) / bag / jeans / jeans (plus-size) / boots

Styling an outfit doesn’t need to be rocket science; a look full of up-to-date basics can appear just as trendy as a look that’s actually full of trendy pieces—and often, the result feels more elevated. By pairing a black oversized blazer with a basic white mock-neck, mom jeans, and Chelsea boots, you get a look that you can turn to time and time again and will look just as good no matter how many times you wear it.

3. A midi dress and knee-high boots

dress / dress (plus-size) / sunglasses / boots / bag

The beauty of this season’s knee-high boot trend? They’re beginning to be worn with a midi dress, making a two-piece outfit that you can rely on whenever you’re going somewhere you need to look a bit elevated. Bonus points for a midi that’s in one of this season’s hottest colors.

4. A white button-up and chunky loafers

button-up / button-up (plus-size) / sunglasses / bag / jeans / loafers

There are infinite ways to style a white button-up, but there’s no need to always re-invent the wheel with it. With a pair of light-wash mom jeans, chunky and trendy loafers, and your favorite pair of sunnies, it’ll look like you put way more effort into the look than you really did. When in doubt, this is a look that will never fail you.

5. A shacket and jeans

Luckily for those of us who hopped on the shacket trend last year, they’re back again in 2021. With a white tee, your favorite jeans, and a pair of chunkier boots, you’ll get a relaxed feel that’s perfect for just about any fall activity on your calendar (hello, apple picking).

6. Leather trousers and a plaid shacket

Looking to wear your leather pants in a casual way? Have no fear. With a basic top, plaid jacket, and white sneakers, the outfit will serve as an updated version of your favorite black jeans, with a result that’s just a bit edgier.

The Best Pieces From the Fall Abercrombie Launch

The Everygirl’s product selections are curated by the editorial team. If you buy something through our links, we may earn an affiliate commission, at no cost to you. We only recommend products we genuinely love.

Source: Abercrombie

I’ve admittedly been extremely critical of Abercrombie + Fitch in the past. Listen, I grew up scrounging up every quarter I could out of the swear jar (thank you to the Cleveland Browns for always letting my dad down) just to afford an extra-large T-shirt from Abercrombie when I was 11. I have some serious trauma from not fitting into their jeans when I wore a size 8. And even in adulthood when I was plus-size, I put my head down every time someone in the office started talking about how they had “the best jeans” because of the embarrassment of them not carrying my size. So you’ll understand that when they launched plus sizes, I was skeptical.

I’d been burned by Abercrombie in the past, and I refused to let a store make me feel like sh*t for another second. When our editors in all different sizes tried on their jeans, I opened my eyes a bit because even our plus-size contributor loved her Abercrombie jeans. After a year of my sizes changing nonstop and feeling like I could never find a pair of jeans that fit, I finally ordered a few pairs to try on at home, and I immediately understood the hype. They fit like a glove, don’t bag out by the end of the day, and have trendy styles I usually can’t find in mid and plus sizes.

Due to my newfound appreciation for Abercrombie (we’re still in the talking phase, but I’m telling all of my friends about her), I’ve been on their site nonstop, drooling over their new fall arrivals, and I have quite the wishlist going. Here’s what I’m considering picking up now that I can finally shop there:

Abercrombie & Fitch

’90s Ultra High Rise Straight Jeans

These are the jeans that started it all. I bought these after seeing our editors rave about them and them going viral on TikTok, and I can’t say I blame everyone for loving them. They’re Goldilocks jeans: not too rigid, not too stretchy; not too tight, not too baggy; not too thick, not too thin. Everything I could ever want in a jean is right here.

I love the criss-cross detail on the waistband that makes the jeans a little different, and I’m also really excited to try the straight ankle jeans too.

Abercrombie & Fitch

’90s Menswear Pinafore Dress

Mastering the art of layering is always on my to-do list that never gets checked off, but this year, I’m dedicated. This dress would look great over a button-down or turtleneck, with boots or loafers, and with my favorite chunky headband hair accessory trend.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Vegan Leather ’90s Straight Pants

I’ve been on the hunt for a good brown leather trouser, and this is one of my favorite shades of brown that I’ve seen. It’s the warm-tone chocolate brown that I love, and it doesn’t help that it’s also the same style and fit of my favorite ’90s straight jeans.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Ribbed Tank and Cardigan Set

This two-in-one set will make getting dressed in five minutes before Zoom calls (oops) a total breeze. I love that I can wear this buttoned up for work, with the tank when out and about, or the tank alone for nights out, and it looks fall appropriate without being too heavy.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Waffle Joggers

I’m buckling in for another fall and winter working from home, and I’m filling my closet with loungewear I’ll actually wear outside too. These joggers would be perfect for spooky movie nights, but they’re also nice enough to wear on walks around the neighborhood and to the grocery store. They look ultra comfy, and I love the camel color with other shades of brown and black (which any closet is going to have some of already).

Abercrombie & Fitch

Blanket Cape

Are capes in style? I’m not sure, but it doesn’t stop me from wanting one so bad. It’s like fall’s version of big shirt, big pants with a trouser (preferably leather) or big shirt, little pants with your favorite pair of black leggings. It looks cozy AF, and I want in.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Slim Cardigan

The cardigan trend was really made for an outfit repeater, and I’d like to personally thank Hailey Bieber for it. I envision this buttoned all the way with trousers for work or casually unbuttoned with jeans for a night drinking a spiked cider by a fire with my girlfriends. They’re so versatile that I can’t help but wear them again and again.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Cropped Flannel Shirt

I never thought the day I’d wear flannels again would come this soon (I was in high school when Tumblr decided to reinvigorate the ’90s, so wearing flannels around my waist with a tattoo choker and Docs again is too soon for me), but I’m all about it again. This time, though, it’s with a 2021 spin. I love the cropped style of this flannel, and instead of wearing it tied around my waist with a white V-neck and skinny jeans, I’m dying to wear it as a shirt over trousers or wide-leg jeans (a Harry Styles vibe, if you will). This also looks so comfy and soft, and I won’t deny that it’s quintessentially Midwestern fall. I love it.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Ribbed Knit Sweetheart Bodysuit

A few years ago, someone in our office said Abercrombie had the best bodysuits whether you had a large chest or not, and I’ve been wanting to try one ever since. This has such a unique neckline, and the knit material makes it feel extra fall, even if I end up wearing it in a hot restaurant for my birthday.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Leather Mini Puffer

Last year, every cute winter coat sold out before I could order, and I’m not making that mistake again. I’ve eyed this one since last year (when I knew I’d want a little more wiggle room in the XL), and I’m finally jumping on it. Our fashion editor tried four Abercrombie coats last year and raved about the warmth. Now, I just don’t know which color to order. The black is classic and the brown is sexy, but the white is making my House of Gucci Lady Gaga dreams come true. It’s a toss-up.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Duvet Tote Bag

OK, hear me out: I know that even when I couldn’t fit into Abercrombie’s clothes that I could eye their accessories, but now I’m all in—a boycott is a boycott. So now that I feel better about the brand, I’m giving all of their items a shot, including this bag. I’ve been in need of a good gym bag for a while, but everything is either gigantic (I do not shower or change at the gym, so I really just need to carry the essentials) or $5 million (usually both). I love the size and trendy style of this, and the material looks perfect for lugging my stuff through the elements all winter long.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Wide-Strap High-Neck Cutout Bralette

Abercrombie’s activewear is highly intriguing to me, and I figure the best place to start is with something I’d wear as both activewear and regular clothes. This sports bra could easily go under a denim jacket or cardigan for running errands, but I also completely intend on seeing if it holds up at the gym (reviews say their activewear generally does, but I’ll be the judge of that).

What Healthy Women Include in Their Morning Routine

Source: Color Joy Stock

Even if you wouldn’t call yourself a “morning person,” the wee hours before the day begins can serve as a great opportunity for self-care, wellness, creativity, reflection, and productivity. What you do when you first wake up matters because how you spend your morning can set you up for success for the rest of the day. Stop scrolling through TikTok or hitting “snooze” and try these 12 things right when you wake up. FYI, you don’t need to check every item off the list every day to be considered “healthy” (nobody got time for that!). The goal is to offer inspiration for you to prioritize your health, turn happiness into a routine, and make the most of your mornings, whatever that looks like to you. Use these 12 things as inspo to experiment with or adapt to your morning routine in whatever way feels best, but above all, make your mornings work for you (yes, even before 7 a.m.).

1. Drink a big glass of water

Drinking more water is one of the best things you could do for your body. Especially after sleeping all night, it’s important to rehydrate as soon as you wake to feel more energized. Make it a goal to drink a big glass of water in the morning right after waking up. Yes, that means before downing a cup of coffee, grabbing a bite to eat, or taking a shower. Make it a part of your usual morning repertoire to avoid feeling sluggish or tired and rehydrate the body as soon as possible.

2. Establish a skincare routine and stick to it

So you work out, you eat healthy, and you drink water, but don’t forget to take care of your skin too. All you need is a quick 4-5-step process, but if you have the extra time or love a little extra indulgence, put on a face mask or massage in oil while you brush your teeth. You’ll be taking care of your skin for the long term while reaping those instant-glow benefits for the rest of the day. Also remember that it’s not just the skin above your neckline that’s important, so take care of the rest of your body with hydrating body lotion or oil, and apply the same care as you would to your face on the neck and décolletage.

3. Set your alarm a few minutes earlier than you need to

If your mornings feel like a race against the clock, consider waking up extra early to have a slow, calm start to your day. You might have limited control over your mornings (like an early work start time or a child to take care of), so waking up just 10-15 minutes earlier than you need to will help you feel more in control and calmer throughout the entire day. Whether you spend your time meditating, indulging in a luxurious skincare routine, or just brewing a cup of coffee with a moment of silence, you will not miss the 10 minutes of extra sleep.

4. Don’t look at your phone

If the first thing you do after your alarm goes off is check your email or answer text messages, you’re starting your day off reacting to what others need from you instead of giving yourself time to focus on what you need. Give yourself at least a little time to be fully present instead of falling prey to the reactive, response mode from all those notifications and alerts. Stay off social media, don’t check your email, and ignore that text message alert for at least 30 minutes after waking up.

5. Make your bed

Not only will it feel good to get into a made bed later at night, but it’s also important for the success of your day. Making your bed first thing every morning means one small win before you even have a cup of coffee, which subconsciously will motivate you to achieve thousands of small wins throughout the day (and you know what they say about small wins: They lead up to really big ones). Plus, Gretchen Rubin found in her research that it’s the easiest and most common daily habit you can do to boost happiness.

6. Carve out 15-30 minutes for yourself

Maybe you’re used to getting straight to work tasks or your to-do list, and you tell yourself you’ll meditate, move your body, or sit and read later in the day, but how often does that really happen? Place “me time” at the top of your to-do list instead of hoping you’ll have time later by setting aside 15-30 minutes every morning to do something just for you. Write, draw, paint, listen to your favorite playlist, practice French—whatever it is, make sure it’s something you’re excited to do. Another option is to spend a few minutes reflecting before beginning your day by journaling or meditating.

7. Connect with someone you love

We’re all about some “me time,” but connecting with the people you love is a crucial part of your self-care routine too. Connecting first thing in the morning will give you those warm and fuzzies all day long and help you remember that the point of life is to enjoy it. Pause for a minute and pet your dog, smile at your roommate, call your mom, kiss your significant other, or write a thank you card to a coworker. All it takes is 60 seconds to check in and reconnect with the people you love most.

8. Eat (or prep) a healthy breakfast

PSA for those of you who claim to not have time for breakfast or that you don’t want breakfast: Breakfast is a crucial opportunity to fit in more nutrients and give your body energy to get through the day. If you don’t feel like eating when you first wake up, no worries. Try to prep something for later in the morning when you are hungry so you can make sure it’s ready to go. Not sure what to make? We’ve got you covered. Try these breakfast bowls, healthy breakfast ideas, and sweet or savory options. If your mornings are usually rushed, try prepping your meal the night before.

9. Clean one area of your home

Ugh, we get it. Who wants to do any chores in the morning before a long day of work? We’re not suggesting you pull out the mop bucket or deep clean an entire room first thing in the morning (we can’t all be Monica Gellar!). You can truly make a huge impact in less than 15 minutes by putting away laundry, wiping the counters, or unloading the dishwasher. You’ll be able to enjoy your entire day and feel less scattered when your space is clean, and you won’t be pushing off more chores to do later.

10. Prep lunch or dinner

The healthiest people know that eating healthy requires thought and preparation. If you wait until you’re starving to think about your next meal, you’re more likely to go get fast food or heat up something from the freezer. If you only have a minute, plan what you’re going to eat for the rest of the day, much like you plan out your calendar and to-do list. It can either be a recipe based on what you’re craving or what you’re going to order from the restaurant down the road. If you have 10-20 minutes, start chopping veggies or even throw ingredients in your instant pot. It will save you time later and ensure you’re making the healthiest decisions possible.

11. Make a to-do list

It’s easy to start the day with your head swimming with everything you need to do. Stop, take a breath, and start writing. Writing everything down on paper will make it easier for you to focus on one task and feel less overwhelmed. Don’t forget to also prioritize life goals. Of course, you’ll always have to do the mundane house chores or tedious tasks, but figure out where you can outsource these items and prioritize what will get you closer to your goals first thing so you make sure to get it done (yes, that means a workout or the brainstorm meeting you’ve been putting off).

12. Move your body

Aside from helping you feel accomplished, morning workouts help your body feel more awake, energized, and productive through the day. But don’t worry: If you don’t have the time (or energy) to go on a run, do a fitness class, or get to the gym before 7 a.m., you don’t need a full workout to reap the benefits. Try going on a walk to get outside, do a quick yoga flow to move the body, or stretch to warm up your muscles. No matter what type of movement your body craves in the morning, it will help wake you up and keep you energized through your day.

An Ode to First Aid Beauty’s Pure Skin Face Cleanser

First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser Review

$22 at Sephora

TL;DR:

  • What It Is: A fragrance-free cream cleanser
  • What It Does: Removes makeup and grime while calming and soothing skin
  • Who It's For: Anyone looking for a cleanser that’s as gentle as it is effective

There are few universal truths in skin care (after all, everyone’s needs are different), but right up there with wearing SPF every single day is the fact that you should always, always remove your makeup before bed.

But doing so can feel like a Herculean task — until you find a cleanser you and your skin absolutely love. For me, that’s long been First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser.

The creamy, fragrance-free formula with calming aloe has the power to remove every trace of mineral sunscreen, makeup, and grime on my face at the end of the day, but never leaves my reactive skin red or irritated. And because it’s so gentle, I also don’t worry about it interacting with the actives — like retinol — I’m using during the rest of my routine.

It’s turned the act of washing my face at night from another item on my to-do list to a soothing ritual — in more ways than one.

You’ll find the First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser in the October 2021 Allure Beauty Box.

Whish Pink Champagne Lip Balm Soothes My Lips Post Fillers

Whish Pink Champagne Lip Balm Review

$20 at Amazon

TL;DR:

  • What It Is: A clear lip balm
  • What It Does: Hydrates with a glossy finish
  • Who It's For: Anyone looking for softer, hydrated lips (it contains bakuchiol, which is a retinol-like ingredient, so it is wise to avoid it if you are pregnant or nursing)

Every time I get fillers, my lips require hydration at all times. Between numbing cream and the healing process, they become as dry as a well-done hamburger (but thankfully, as plump and juicy as a medium-rare one). My remedy of choice lately has been the Whish Pink Champagne Lip Balm. The translucent, jelly-like formula slicks on like a gloss to bathe lips in a soothing layer of hydration. Plus, I love how it gives them a non-sticky shine. When its sheen wears away, though, my lips are left just as moisturized as when I first slathered it on.

Best of all, The balm is spiked with bakuchiol, a buzzy ingredient known as a gentle, vegan retinol alternative, to help smooth away flakiness and inflammation. It's typically found in serums and cream, so this was my intro to bakuchiol’s lip-nourishing benefits.
